To be honest, the reason for my post was more about wondering why we do tend to claim the monopoly on being good. I don't think we can honestly say that we are the only good people, or even that we are better at being good than others.
I (and I believe all Christians) believe that I cannot be good apart from God because God is good. So while I don't think belief in God creates the desire to be good, I do believe that apart from God I cannot be good.
Of course there is much evidence that people who do not believe in God are still good people, and I do not want to come across as saying they (you) aren't. I have met as many non-believers as believers who are good and do good.

Millions are good without god. I'm one of them. I do my work, I help people as and when I can, I give to charity as and when I can. I don't commit felonies and my natural reaction to any question is to give a truthful answer.

So here's a truthful answer - I'm glad to see you admit god isn't what creates the desire for goodness. You credit grace instead, and that's fine. I credit my desire to be compassionate and trustworthy and aim to be a decent human being because I want to be one.

We all have to live on this earth. It's bizarre to freak out over a billboard. I can't get over how irate believers can get over that incredibly true and honest statement. It is not an error to say so at all.

If being good isn't the reason to be Christian, then why do Christians tend to claim a monopoly on being good?

As a Christian, I find myself struggling with the same questions you do. I know that homosexuality is wrong based on God's word. But at the same time, I know that it is not any more wrong than anything I do that the Bible admonishes against. How is it Christians are so strong against this one sin, while being lackadaisical on so many others.

I write a blog about marriage and how men can better love their wives. I hope you will check it out when you have a chance.

Hey nice post. I found your blog through Jenny Simmons' blog (you left a comment there), and the name 'ponderingwanderer' made me wanna check it out. So far so good :)

A book on this topic you might like is called 'Under the overpass' by the way. Its written by two college guys who decide to live as homeless people for a while. The book is about their experiences and also about the people they met during their homeless time.

Blessings!

I was just reading about this...like twenty minutes ago. I have mixed feelings about the actual use of the words, though it would not keep me from purchasing the album. Hmmm....

I know the feeling. Find topics thats interest kids. Topics that they usually ask questions about and want answers to - gets my group quit every time. Technology helps - Videos and music work great. Then look into teaching techniques. Switch your teaching methods to keep the interest going - it will seem new but its all the same gospel with a different approach.

amen...yes we are blessed. i believe we all, (or most), of us are servants, and that's how we pay for our freedom.

i thank God for the men and women who fight for all freedom. i am a frequent donator to the military families, yet i feel, i need to do more. but what?

thanks for expressing your gratitude
